I am an abstract expressionist artist with an interest in British rural wildlife. My artwork was initially influenced by my childhood experiences of game shooting. As an artist I want to share the beauty of the wildlife I have been able to enjoy through country sports. I first started to paint rural wildlife from direct observation in the field and from photographs I had taken on shooting trips and at home. I am also inspired by the work of other abstract and wildlife artists. I like artists that have a love of animals and an in depth knowledge of their subject matter often gained from personal experience. I admire artists who use their artistic talent to highlight public awareness of the existence of amazing wildlife and their often threatened future.
My artwork is thought provoking and at times dramatic and striking. I enjoy using mixed media and experiment with my colour palette often using earthy colours with splashes of vibrant reds, blues and greens. I use layers of acrylic paint to produce strong visible brushstrokes and sometimes incorporate drips of paint and ink to add emotion, expression and movement.
